Not 100% sure if the event log entry it's directly linked to your issue but there is a thread about the error and how it's down to processes loading unsigned code
There is also a KB entry for the issue and a Hotfix is avaliable
Whether this will actually fix your scan starting issue or just clear the mfehidk events from occuring i couldn't say.

Hi rdefino, I think you'll have to open a case with McAfee to get this hotfix as it was removed from the KB.
Otherwise, if you try to scan a folder (by right-clicking it and using the scan for threats option) does it still says nothing or do you get a "
