Well, I was going to tell you that the scriptsn.dll was probably corrupt and advise you to run MVT. However, you've gone one stage beyond that ... unfortunately. I think MCPR2.exe is an old version of the removal tool, and if you're working from the instructions given on http://us.mcafee.com/root/ProductUpdate.asp?cid=35172 then I think you should read the newer instructions on http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?lc=1033&id=TS100507.
Did you uninstall McAfee using the Windows Add/Remove Programs facility before running MCPR2?
Hi, thanks for replying.
I did try Windows first, but that failed - it opened a window that had a white screen and nothing displayed. Tried that a few times, with no joy before attempting MCPR2.
Followed the instructions you suggested and clean up worked OK, but when I try to download again (having deactivated to avoid a problem with the number of licences) McAfee Installer displays a grey screen that eventually reports an error - "We're having trouble installing your McAfee software..." with a msgbox saying it will again - and the process repeats.
So slightly further forward - McAfee removed - but now no protection beyond Windows Firewall. Not sure how long to leave it before I abandon McAfee and go elsewhere.
McAfee has a removal tool that works best for McAfee software. You should try using it so it would be deleted successfully.
Please try the below steps and let us know if you still have issues in downloading McAfee programs.
1. Run the McAfee Removal Tool (http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe
2. Reboot the computer, make sure Internet Explorer is your default browser
3. Run the Pre-Install tool http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/McPreInstall.e xe
4. If required reboot the computer in Safe Mode with Networking and re-try the installation
If you still encounter same error please provide us the below information on your PC
What Operating system ?
Is the PC connected to internet through a wired connection or wireless?
Are you trying the latest installation from CD or from the web account ?
What is the version of your Internet explorer ? Open IE – Click on Help – Click About Internet explorer
Thanks - I eventually (through a chat session) resolved the problem with the McAfee support group - basically the problem was with IE9. When this was uninstalled, then I successfully removed and reinstalled McAfee - no problems since then. Fortunately I don't use IE!
Glad that you are OK now, thank you
