*nix superseded patches: how to get a credible report?

We're just beginning our rollout of authenticated scans for our *nix systems (a mix of different OSs.)

Today I showed the results for a test scan to one of our Unix system administrators, and it appears the two "missing updates" are for older versions; the updates have been superseded by an update installed last week.

When he checks the system against the official update site for that OS, it does not show any pending updates, and certainly not the two older (from last year) updates that MVM lists as 'missing.'

Is there a way I can get a more credible list of 'missing updates' for *nix (Unix variants) from MVM?  I see there are 'non-superseded patch lists' for Windows systems, but is there an equivalent for *nix?

      Thanks,

      J.
