Windows 2000 Server not updating VE 8.5.0i

I saw similiar threads to this but all the links were dead ending at homepage for this site. Also appears to be happening every 2 minutes as well. Only happens on this server, so far as I know all clients and other servers are fine. Have tried deleting and reinstalling through Protection Pilot, but nothing seems to work.

Here is access protection log you will notice a "Blocked by Access Protection Rules".

In Update log notice loading error for COM component and Error occurred while getting point product callback component interface. When update completes it shows as successful which is why I am just catching this now. I am doing IT as side job since we are small company.

      Any help will be appreciated.

You want me to try all of them? You want me to waste more time searching for pages? What?

mcafee recently changed the way links to KB articles work.. or should i say, made it so they no longer work.

put in the KB article that Tony mentions - KB54657 - and search on it.

              Hi All,

              Important stuff first.

Primary reported issue (The error :Error occurred while loading COM component:{5712C245-EB8D-4816-809A-81D78D7E9285}.

I went looking for the key string in the KnowledgeBase and found an article that hints that the problem is down to an unregistered DLL. (The UpdateCallback.dll is not registered)

              Search string used = "5712C245-EB8D-4816-809A-81D78D7E9285"

The article I found was actually documented for McAfee GroupShield. But since VSE and GSE use a common update technology, means the solution could still help you.  I need you to let me know if this fixes the issue so I can get a new KB created for VSE.

The solution was taken from KB51821

Go to the McAfee ServicePortal and search for KnowledgeBase article KB51821 (KB title is: ERROR: Error occurred while loading COM component:{5712C245-EB8D-4816-809A-81D78D7E9285}.
NOTE: You can access the KnowledgeBase anonymously, but some articles are available only to logged in users

One final point that might help. I once worked with a very clever engineer at McAfee who found that update issues were sometimes linked to DLL's that were not registered. Sometimes shared DLL's were unregistered by third party apps.

Sometimes these were in the windows system32 folder and sometimes it was a file in the McAfee folder which failed to be re-registered during an upgrade or patch installation. Since we have found one article that contains your error and this is linked to  an unresgistered DLL, is why I would suggest you look at the solution documented in KB58705 and focus on solution 3 and 4.

SOL 3: Resolving the problem by fixing all possible DLL issues in the c:\Program Files\Network Associates\Common Framework folder

SOL 4: Resolving the problem by fixing all possible DLL issues in the c:\Windows\System32 folder:

              Secondary issue (Links)

I had no problem using the link and accessing the article it was pointing at. Although I prefer to point people to the service portal and type the KB##### in or tell them what search string I used to find the KB. Giving the search string helps people learn some basics about how to search in the InQuira KnowledgeBase and if more than one solution exists, allows them to read the alternative solutions.

However. The following is the KB link format we advice when pointing to external article that are posted on the McAfee ServicePortal:

              Example

              https://kc.mcafee.com/corporate/index?page=content&id=KB60404

If you continue to have problems using links please let us know what the problem is. Any errors, taken to the default home page etc, etc.

              All the best.
