    mcshield process drains cpu

When I power on my computer, mcshield takes all cpu and 55 Mbytes of memory for about 15 minutes.  This is totally unacceptable on both counts.  I ran a full system scan a few days ago.  I uninstalled Spybot months ago, to try to appease McAfee.

The mcshield.exe process will not allow me to kill it through task manager as an administrator.   Can you say 'bad actor?'  Get real.

I'm fed up with 'protection software' that is as bad as a virus.

This has been happening since around the beginning of January, 2012.

I'm looking for someone to convince me I don't have to find a different product, as I don't want to spend time and money on uninstall and reinstall.

Your using Windows Vista and it's known to drain PC resources. Anyways, can you please post the resource monitor when mcshield was taking up all the CPU resources?

          Thanks.

Two quick notes : first, your processor is 1.6GHz, which is a bit on the slow side for intensive real-time processing (which is what mcshield is doing). If you can get a compatible upgrade, that would help. And second, mcshield is checking files being accessed by other programs, so look to see what programs and services are running during the start-up process and keep those down to the minimum.

I use XP Pro and solved the problem of mschield excessive cpu usage is by changing the system properties, Performance Options as follows:

              Adjust for best performance of

              Processor scheduling : programs

              Memory usage: System Cache
