You're not alone... Same problem here and it appears to only affect the VS 8.0i machines.. Running an "Update Now" from VS 8.7i or 8.5i gets the job done correctly.. It appears to be a McAfee server problem as the retail versions are having issues as well. When you attempt to run "Update Now" or the Autoupdate procedure, it always ends the same:
Starting VirusScan task: Autoupdate
Starting update session.
Checking update packages from repository NAIHttp.
Loading update configuration from: Catalog.xml
Closing the update session.
If you have a easy connect to your McAfee corporate support, please contact them and let them know about your situation. It should clear it up quicker that way..
Hope this helps.
Maybe they changed something in the catalog.xml file that is confusing these older versions. At least it's not just me. I'm not over-hyper about updating, and can download the xdat.exe and run that until they fix it if the corporate link doesn't work well.
Technically, I should be using 8.5i, but they have it set restrictive, which could be an issue as I am remote and need to be able to control it if something goes bad.
Well, we've got about twenty machines still using the older VS 8.0i, particular some running Windows 2000. I'm SURE we're not the only ones still using 8.0i.
Hope this helps.
Count me in with about 40 machines that won't update.
I just got off the phone with McAfee Gold support and together we found a solution to this. We tried installing the latest patches to 8.0i but that didn't work. We then tried installing the latest SuperDat file but that didn't fix it.
Finally I downloaded and installed a newer Common Management Agent (CMA) and that fixed the problem. The one I downloaded and installed is version 3.6.0. The latest is called McAfee Agent Ver. 4.0.0 but I need to test it with my old EPO 3.5 server to see if its compatible.
Is there a link to download it?
I went to http://www.mcafee.com/us then under Useful Links, clicked on Downloads. On the next page under Medium Business Downloads clicked on My Products. At the next screen you will be prompted for your current Grant Number. After that you will see all the products available for download with your current license.
I thought so. I'll have to see if I can find out if we have a grant number, or I'm f'd.
Yep, u gotta have that old Grant number. You should be able to contact McAfee and have them check their records. If you are current they should be able to send it to you.
BTW my McAfee EPO server just crashed! Now ain't that just a "wonderful" thing to happen the day before Thanksgiving! Get one thing fixed and something else breaks. Its just been one of those weeks. Arrrgh!
