These things will fool all major antivirus software unfortunately.
McAfee has a tool called FakeAlert Stinger which may help - http://www.mcafee.com/us/downloads/free-tools/fake-alert-stinger.aspx

Thank you! I followed the instructions in the removal guide at http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-win-7-antispyware-2012 and succeeded in getting rid of Win 7 Antivirus 2012 from my Dell laptop!
A couple of hints:
(1) I had to complete the first few steps in the instructions running in "Safe Mode" to actually make any progress; and
(2) Even after running the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware scan, my McAfee firewall would still not stay active; I got everything back in working order following the instructions in this McAfee guide to reinstall:
