    Only agent, no VirusScan

      I encounter a problem: After I depolyed McAfee Agent 4.6 and VirusScan Enterprise 8.8 to update Agent 4.5 and VSE8.7, there are three clients only have Agent deployed but no VirusScan. Two of them had same problem, only Agent 4.5 no VSE 8.7 beore I deploy Agent 4.6. One of the three clients is newly installed "clean" test computer. I tried to deploy 4.5, only 4.5 installed no 8.7. Then I tried to deploy 4.6, only 4.6 installed no 8.8.

       

      Is there anybody can help me? Thanks in advance.

          Can you zip up and attach the agent_<machine name>.log and mcscript.log from this machine? Then we can have a look...

            Tanks for your help.

             

            I attached the logs and hope it is useful to you. (Logs are in English). (I only found one Swedish word: ....VSE 8.8.0 "Mislickade", that means unsucceeded".

              OK, looks like the agent is receiving and running the task OK - so it must be the VSE install itself that's failing.

              In the system temp folder, have you got a McAfeeLogs folder? If so can you zip it and attach it?

                Log files are too many. I deleted some VSEInst_.......log files. They looks the same.

                  Okay - the error in the log reads "Minst en funktion måste väljas för att fortsätta med installationen.  Välj en funktion för att fortsätta."  which according to Google translates to "At least one function must be selected to continue the installation. Select an option to continue.  "  Hopefully that's an accurate translation

                  I have asked my VSE colleagues if they have any comments as I'm not a VSE expert - but in the meantime, what happens if you manually try and installVSE on one of these machines? That will allow you to see the installer working and may give us more information...

                    The translation from goolge is perfect in this case.

                     

                    1. I update MA4.5/VSE8.7 to MA4.6/VSE 8.8.The problem is that if the clients have already had MA4.5/VSE8.7 installed (which is in the current Branch), it can update to MA4.6/VSE8.8(which is in the Evaluation branch). Otherwise, they cannot update. For instance, there are two clients only have MA4.5 installed but VSE8.7 cannot been installed neither by Agent nor manually. These two clients only can update to MA4.6 no VSE8.8, even I installed VSE8.8 manually. It seems that it is the problem for specific clients.

                     

                    2. I installed new "clean" computer for test, the same problem occurs. The new test computer with same hardware can only deploy MA4.5, no VSE8.7 or MA4.6 no VSE8.8. It seems that it is caused by my ePo configuration. I confused.

                     

                    3. I have tried to install VSE8.7 (when I deploy MA4.5) manually for VSE8.8 (when I deploy MA4.6) in my "clean" test computer. The following error occured:

                    3a. In case of MA4.5: VSE 8.7 cannot be installed manually. Setup flie cannot run. It says: Another version of VSE has been installed.

                    3b. In case of MA4.6: VSE8.8 cannot be installed manually. Setup file can run, and I can click Next several time. But finally it says: VSE installation is ceased before installation is complete. Please note that I tried to deploy MA4.6 first. I guess that VSE8.8 is installed in halfway so it says "Another version is installed." when I wet back to try VSE8.7.

                     

                    I confused. I have installed the test computer again and the same problem happens. I just doubt if I did something wrong in ePo for updating MA and VSE.

                      Unfortundately it means there's not a lot more I can do - I'm not a VSE expert    If you can't install VSE manually on a machine, then ePO is never going to be able to...

                      Possibly there may be some other posters here who can help with this - otherwise I'd suggest either asking the question in the VSE forum, or alternatively opening a support case. I believe that there are some tools for clearing up failed VSE installations, but I don't have any experience with them.

                        Thanks for your kindness. You offer me good suggestions and I now can read logs. I think I should clean the test computer again and try to install VSE from scrach. If I findthe reason I will post it here. It is difficult for you guys just read some logs here to identify complex reason, maybe just I click the wrong button
