You can only make exceptions from a manual or scheduled scan but not from the real-time scanner which works in the background. We have asked for that ability to be reintroduced into the home products but we haven't been successful thus far.
Your best way is to temporarily disable virus protection enough to reinstate it from quarantine and report it to McAfee Labs as a false detection.

Was it simply quarantined or identified as an Artemis detection?
