Do you have the remote control PUP category enabled in VSE/ASPW?
You could submit it through virustotal to check for viruses and also webimmune and if it comes back as ok and its just a PUP setup an exception for this app.
I've also had Mcafee eat VNC (the RealVNC variation) on a couple machines...
Edit: this came with DAT 5384.0000
I'm using enforced AV client on a SonicWall 3060. I don't see a remote control PUP category anywhere. I've attempted to approve the application, but it seems to have locked up. Rebooting now.
oops, should have done a search first.
Just doing an exclusion for "Generic PUP.x" seems to have fixed the problem for now. Luckily only a few folks use VNC here. Looks like some people on that other thread have thousands of machines to redeploy VNC to...ouch.
Thanks for posting that, I'll pass it on.
The usual means we have of contacting HQ directly about occurrences such as this, the Forum Admininstrator, is off sick, so we are pretty powerless to do anything ourselves.
Just be sure to remove that exclusion tomorrow (assuming McAfee fixes this in the next dat release).
I was just given this news update:
Virus Research has identified two executable files as being wrongly categorized as Generic Pup Detections in the 5384 DAT release earlier this morning. The files are related to the widely used Remote Administration tool VNC, the PUP detection is correct, however they should be categorized as per our RemAdm prefix, and not Generic PUP.? (where ? Is X or Z) .
The affected files are:
winvnc.exe (det as - Generic pup.z) 913ff5a608de6a2ab320eb919092049a
winvnc4.exe (det as - Generic PUP.x) bda11f9ab8629313950cef60ec1dbe1d
These will be both added as
In todays DAT release.
