    VSE default rules killing existing install of VNC

    Labnuke

      When installing VSE 8.7 or 8.8 on a client computer where VNC is already installed, the default policy for Remote Admin tools causes VNC to be classified as a Potentially Unwanted Program and removes the files. We have put in an exception for VNC in our regular policy set, but when doing a fresh VSE install, the client does not have this policy enforced. Is there a way around having the default policy set enforced on a client during the install process?

      Thanks for the help!

          KB53860 - How to exclude WinVNC from detection as a Potentially Unwanted Program

          https://kc.mcafee.com/corporate/index?page=content&id=KB53860

          NOTE: Generally RemAdm-VNCView is deleted immediately after you install VSE. The detection and deletion of  RemAdm-VNCView occurs before the updated Unwanted Program policy can be applied or received from ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO). This is an installation option and not a policy. When policy enforcement occurs,  the On-Access-Scanner will be enabled with the exclusions already in place. This typically occurs within 5 minutes after your installation completes.

          Depending on the installation method, one of the following actions is necessary:

          • Local installation using setupVSE.exe:

            Use the Custom option. Deselect the box for Enable On-Access Scanner at the end of installation during the install process.

          • Deployment via ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO):

            Use the command line option below to not enable the On-Access Scanner at the end of installation:

            ENABLEONACCESSSCANNER=""

          • Installations using a login script or the command line option:

            Use the option below to not enable the On-Access Scanner at the end of installation:

            SetupVSE.exe ENABLEONACCESSSCANNER="" /q

            For more information, see the Installation Guide for your version of VSE.
