It should only happen periodically when there has been a major software update. It's possible the software has somehow become corrupted for reasons unknown. In which case it is best to start afresh by uninstalling via Control Panel/Programs/Uninstall a Program (Add or Remove a Program in XP), then run the MCPR cleanup tool listed under Useful Links at the top of this page and reboot. Then reinstall from McAfee's account page.
Thanks for the quick answer.
I'll reinstall it now....Just wanted to be sure.
You're welcome and I hope it fixes it.
I've had the exact same problem for a week or so, every time it updates either automatically or manually, it always requires a restart. I've checked the version/build and nothing ever changes after these updates. I've reinstalled McAfee twice, nothing works.
Did you uninstall via
ie windows removal then MCPR removal tool reboot and run
reinstall from your account
If uninstalling and using the cleanup tool etc. don't help I suggest you contact Technical Support available through the link in Useful Links at the top of this page.
It's free for online chat or even phone now.
They can use tools to troubleshoot the issue.
Do you still have the restart issue after McAfee updates ?
Please update us with the below information
What operating system ?
