We have already rolled out 5300 engine to over 1000 systems. We have majority of our systems with VSE 8.5i running Patch 4 and some VSE 8.0i running Patch 15.
I did have one Admin report that when he pushed out to one lab system that the McAfee VirusScan disappeared from the "M" icon. I have been unable to duplicate his issue. On the suspect system it still reported the 5200 engine back to his EPO server.
I believe that the only reason to go to Patch 6.1 is if you have installed 5300 prior to Patch 6. Apparently Patch 6 had an issue with 5300 engine and that is the reason for Patch 6.1.
On our campus, the students are unmanaged by EPO and all will be running VSE 8.5i with Patch 4. I believe that McAfee would have made sure that Patch 4 or Patch 5 works with this engine.
No you don't need to upgrade to Patch 6.1 to install the 5300. It is just needed if you are upgrading a system to Patch 6 that has the 5300 engine already on it. It is only a change in the installer to make sure the 5300 scan engine files are not accidentally overwritten.
I've seen this happen a few times when the anti virus is restarting it does re-appear after a few minutes
What Auto-Update to 5300? Can I stop this?

Thanks......For those of you who have deployed this engine, what percentage of PC's required a Reboot? None of them in my small test bed have needed to be booted.
I've restarted one of our machines here as it was very slow after the update although it only had one mcafee process which was the up to date one.
A few have had two mcafee processes but these tended to be caused by users being impatient as after a few minutes the second process would disappear and performance would return to normal.
I'm looking at approx 10k boxes across the State of Illinois. So a reboot is a huge deal.
We have over 2500 workstations on our campus. Small numbers by most in comparison, but I've found that any workstation running 8.0i required a reboot. I only have a small contingent running 8.5i, ~ 350 workstations. Rebooting after the 5300 engine install has been very consistent for 8.0i. I had not issues installing the 5300 engine for workstations running version 8.5i.
