My first question is to get clarification.. You state: "It isnt listed at all as an option. " When you open the VirusScan Console, is "Buffer Overflow Protection" listed on a separate line and if so, is it greyed out so it can't be enabled/disabled? OR...Is it simply not listed in the VS Console? If it's listed but greyed out, have you tried opening the "Access Protection" listing, then UNCHECKING the box in the lower left which "Prevents McAfee services from being stopped" ? Once that's done, can you then enabled/disable Buffer Overflow Protection?
If none of the above steps work, I suggest doing a full uninstall using the information at the link below.. In addtion, if there were previous versions of McAfee, or any other AV, on the machine, also do a full, manual uninstall of the program. (I've posted the uninstall instructions for both 8.0i and 8.5i just in case you need them both..)

Hope this helps.
The Buffer Overflow Protection simply isnt listed on the VS Console.
I did try removing and reinstalling but that didnt work either sad
A full manual uninstall takes quite a long time.. You performed such a manual uninstall before reinstalling?
I DID find the information below about 64bit systems:
Another note from the VS 8.5i License.txt file on this computer:
When installing Buffer Overflow Protection,
these limitations apply:

a computer that already has the McAfee

installed on it, the Buffer Overflow
Protection feature is disabled in the
The McAfee Entercept or Host Intrusion
Prevention products provide more complete
coverage, so they take precedence over the

installed on 64-bit or Microsoft Windows

Hope this helps.
