    Autoupdate over 2 months old

      I try to Autoupdate.

      Currently running

8.7i, INstalled patches: 2. DAT Version 6414.0000, DAT Created On July 21, 2011

      Scan Engine 5400.1158

When I run it, it shows a generic script error (below in log) and says updates were not applied because packages were not in repository EXTRADAT1000

I read the knowledgebase saying this is not an error, however, obviously the Mcafee available DAT has been updated to a new version on their servers since July 21, 2011 (my current DAT),

and when i click "START FULL SCAN" to run a scan, it pops up an error stating my DAT file is over 2 months old.

So the reality is, it is not getting the new DAT file that is available.

      Any good reason why not?

I also saw the knowlegebase article about removing the UpdateDir file (didnt have one to remove).

I also stopped the framework service, removed the dat folder & files in the Common Framwork\CURRENT folder

Restarted the framework service, and tried to do the update again.

Still, no UpdateDir folder was ever created (not even sure if its really supposed to be) the other files were created fine, but i still get the same script error, and i never get the new DAT.

      Any help is welcomed!!

Please look at KBs #: KB66848,KB65815,KB60739.

              Thanks for responding.

I did look at these KBs previous to my post.

KB66848  I dont have a c:\TEMP directory, so i dont have the TestEngDat32 subfolder either.

KB65815  I did all the steps previously, except replace the 2 MSC files (as i dont have copies of them). They are dated 2009 though, so kindof hard to believe they
                                  would be bad.

KB60739  As stated in the original post, I dont have an UpdateDir directory in the Common Framework directory (nor is there an UpdateDir file).

                Hello jmeray.

You have to look in C:\Windows\Temp directory, few days ago i also faced same issue & refered mentioned KB articles. And in my case i found that directory in C:\Windows\Temp

So please try........this might help you.

                  Thanks for the response.

I found the directories TestEngDat32 and TestEngDat64 in the windows\temp as you suggested.

I restarted the framework service (just to be certain).

                  I started the update.

It recreated both folders (TestEngDat32 and 64)

However, it still said the same thing....

And failed to download any update to the DAT.  It says I am still running on July 21, 2011 DAT

Inside the TestEngDat32 folder are 5 files, 4 of them are DAT dated July 21, 2011 avvclean, avvnames, avvscan

                  and 1 of them config.dat dated 10/6/2009.

mcscan32.dll is dated 10/6/2009 as well.

Inside the TestEngDat64 folder = empty.

                    Hello...

You can also try below steps.

As you have mentioned in your earlier post that you have already followed this steps, but you have not replaced .mcs files.

So please do replace those files from any working computer this will resolve your Issue.

                    1. Click Start, Run, type services.msc, then click OK.
                    2. Right-click the McAfee Framework Service and select Stop. Then minimize the services window.
                    3. Using Windows Explorer navigate to the following folder: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\McAfee\Common Framework\
                    4. Right-click on the file UpdateDir and select Delete. (If the folder is not available carryon with next step)
                    5. Replace the files UpdateMain.mcs and InstallMain.mcs with those from a working computer.
                    6. Delete the contents of  the folder c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\McAfee\Common Framework\Current\VSCANDAT1000\
                    7. Maximize the services window and right-click on the McAfee Framework Service and select Start.
                    8. Perform an Update now.

If any queries pls, let me know.

                      Hermant, thanks for the response.

I just cannot get a copy of those 2 files from anyone.

Either they are running Windows 7 which does not use those files.

Or they are running Mcafee 8.8 (and i cannot be certain those 2 mcs files are the same with 8.8)

Anyone have those files they could send me?

Or is there anyplace on Mcafee website that has them available for download?

                      Files: UpdateMain.mcs & InstallMain.mcs

Another suggestion is try downloading the XDAT (DAT only) or SuperDAT (DAT and engine) file from McAfee's web site (http://www.mcafee.com/apps/downloads/security-updates/security-updates.aspx) and run it with the /f parameter (/f forces install over existing).

                          Definitely a good idea.

However, i'm going to try and see if I can get the "autoupdate" fixed so i dont have to worry about manual updates of the DAT.

But if there is no light at the end of this tunnel... I'll consider that as my next option.

                          THanks!
