exact same setup with 81 Mb here.
VSE 8.5 + AntiSpyware + Patch 6
88mb for me
VSE 8.5 + MAS + Patch 6.1 : 59 336Ko
Does anyone know why it is using so much memory these days?
My system is running with Patch 6.1 and Mcshield is reporting 83mb.
Task Manager is reporting that mcshield.exe is running 59 mb here with 8.5i VSE and ASE Patch #6 . I'm about to install the new 5300 scan engine.. We'll see if it changes anything.
Addendum: I've just installed the new 5300 scan engine on two different identical XP SP3 machines here and in both cases, the memory being used by mcshield.exe has dropped.. For example, the computer above where mschield.exe was running 59 mb is now running at 45 mb.. The other computer had similar results, from 61 mb to 47 mb.
Both computers required a reboot after the new engine was installed.
I checked the memory usage on both machines AFTER restarting and running a few manual RIGHT click scans on folders and files... and after downloading a number of small files and updates to various antispyware programs which are installed these computers. A quick test of the EICAR site also shows that the new scan engine detects the basic virus test file.
Obviously, your mileage may vary..
Hope this helps.
I never understood why mcshield.exe memory consumption fluctuates so much.
I've some workstations where the process takes around 30mb, and on another it can go up to 90mb (all this values where checked when the OAS was somewhat idle...)
I'm seeing that a number of our users are getting approx 90MB usage.
Also seeking spikes in CPU use, where two mcshield.exe processes are hogging the CPU. In each case, the systems are high spec systems, and the mcshield is killing the performance of the system.
since i have installed the 5300 engine a few days back, mcshield has dropped to 35-40mb, instead of 85-90mb.
so far so good.
