Could you please run McAfee virtual technician from here : http://mvt.mcafee.com and post us back your session id .
Also let us know if you have any other security software installed on your PC.
Same problem here since about 9pm CDT last night (9/13/11). Real time scanning refuses to start. I've never had this problem before. I'm only running McAfee for virus protection. Still have issue after running MVT. Windows Defender reports the computer is free of spyware. I'm out of ideas. Could it possibly be a recent McAfee update "glitch"?
Well... it looks like a complete uninstall and reinstall of McAfee via the download link in my account did the trick. Real time scanning works fine again.

Since posting the help request, I've been away.
I have now uninstalled and reloaded McAfee and, like others this has happen to, I'm OK now.
I guess the outstanding question is: why did it just start happening?
Anyway, let's hope McAfee remains stable!
