Latitude E6420 Encryption stuck in loop

Hello, has anyone else had issues with encrypting the Dell Latitude E6420 where the encryption process kicks off as expected for the first 60 minutes untill the next scheduled sync when it starts to decrypt, and then at the next sync it starts to encrypt again? This process just goes round in a loop and never actualy finishes. It doesn't make any difference if the laptop can see the Endpoint server or not at the time of the sync. The original seed laptop that we recieved from Dell worked fine after setting the drives to AHCI but the builds that we now recieve from Dell seem to have altered slightly which is a great help (not!). I haven't any details about client and server versions yet but wondered if anyone recognised this symptom?

I have moved your post the the data protection section.

You may want to add in what version of Endpoint Encryption you are using.

          • 2. Re: Latitude E6420 Encryption stuck in loop

Thanks for moving this. We're currently running 5.2.6, looking at other similar posts we should update to 5.2.8 minimum but no one else has mentioned it fixing this symptom.....

Personally, I don't use EEM so can't comment.

Moved your post into the correct group in DataProtection ------> Encryption:EE Managed

Hopefully someone will lend comment soon

              Regards

can you post the client log so we can see what the machine is doing?

Here's the log from this morning - (I've removed the usernames where it shows "Adding User")

                  • From 10.02 the progerss showed as Encrypting disk0 (C)
                  • From 10.36 the progress changed to Decrypting disk 0(C)
                  • At 11.40 the progerss changed to Encrypting disk0 (C)

                  • 6. Re: Latitude E6420 Encryption stuck in loop

despite what it says - did it actually do anything? ie did the progress bar count down, or did it just change the word?

You don't have something funky like a load balanced pair of EEM databases by any chance?

Also, all partitions are standard MBR Basic type - no dynamic disks?

                    • 7. Re: Latitude E6420 Encryption stuck in loop

Yes the progress bar counts down from around 3hrs30min to 2hrs 30min by which time it synchronizes again and the progress bar resets

No, we only have the one EEM database

Yes the partitions are standard MBR, not dynamic.

                      • 8. Re: Latitude E6420 Encryption stuck in loop

does it switch direction if you manually sync, or only at these regular periods? This is very obscure - I'd say as you are the only one having this problem and it's only one machine, to nuke it and start again, but it's certainly intriguing.

                        • 9. Re: Latitude E6420 Encryption stuck in loop

This gets more bizarre! When I manually sync, if it's encrypting then it carries on encrypting but the estimated time goes back to 3hrs30min, if I manually sync again then it flicks over to decrypting for about 1 sec and then starts encrypting again. Seems that every other manual sync flips to decrypting for a brief moment.

I whish it was just the one machine but it's all of our latest Latitude E6420 from Dell.  Older machines in the same encryption groups on the EEM continue to work fine...
