Sorry for the deferred response , did you recently perform any changes to the PC that could have reverted the settings back ? Also, could you please recheck the scheduled scan settings now and let us know what it says . Also what is the version of your virus scan .
When I was doing the monthly Windows Updates on one of my OS's last night I noticed it was crawling along and sure enough, VirusScan was running a scan and I always have scheduled scanning turned off.
Sorry Dinesh, I can't remember which OS it was to provide logs as I was more interested in getting the rather huge Microsoft Updates done, but I thought I would post to say that I have seen this happening too to back up what the OP has said.
I multi-boot 2 Vista Ult SP2 x64, 2 Win 7 Ult SP1 x64 and 2 XP Pro SP3 x86 VM's, so you can see updating them is a chore.
I suspect it was following a recent update, but I may be mistaken and I can guarantee that the settings were still shown as "Off" for Scheduled Scanning. Needless to say I cancelled the scan as soon as I realised what was happening.
It has happened intermittently before but doesn't seem to happen all the time. Very weird. I'm wondering if something being scanned as it is downloaded is kicking off a full blown scan?
Just had the scan kick-off again.
Checked and my Scheduled Scanning is still set to "Off".
Total Proection Versions:
- McAffee SecurityCenter: Version 11.0; Build 11.0.572.
- McAfeee VirusScan: Version 15.0; build 15.0.291
VirusScan was updated yestday, 08/18/2011.
And no changes to thr machine in the last several months.
That's bizarre. If Dinz doesn't answer I'll bring it up on our Monday conference call with McAfee.
I have scheduled scans turned off too & I've observed a scan taking place on my machine when a suspect file is downloaded, that could be the trigger to what you are observing perhaps?
All downloads are auto-scanned routinely anyway of course.
