    McAfee activation not working on windows 7

      Hi Team,

       

                     I have taken a lenovo ideapad, which has a preinstalled mcafee antivirus plus. But right from the begining the system tray shows , Your computer is at risk and am not able to either activate the product or run the scan, also when i click on check for updates , it says downloading but it never starts. Can you please help me in this issue.

          More details please.  Is this Windows 7 SP1 and what version of Internet Explorer is installed (open it and go to Help/About) plus are you connected to the internet by wired or wireless connection?

           

          Also if the computer came with McAfee already installed it must have been attached to someone's account at McAfee.com, do you know who that is and have you got the email address used and password?  (Don't publish them here please).

            Hi Brit,

             

                           Thanks for the immediate response. Its Windows 7 and IE 8, and am connected through broadband wired connetion.

             

                           The McAfee s/w has been preinstalled by lenovo and been shipped to me. I donot have any account details or any userid/pwd for this. They have preinstalled and                also gave the setup dump.

              OK, install IE9 from here:  http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/internet-explorer/downloads/ie

               

              Change your Country at top right if necessary.

               

              Then go to IE Tools/Internet Options/Advanced and click Reset to make all settings default.

               

              Click Apply and OK and pormpts.

               

              Close and reopne IE and go to Tools/Manage Add-Ons and re-enable any add-ons you need.

               

              See if it now works.  SecurityCenter should adopt the same connection that your other programmes use to connect.

               

              Also make sure that your Java is up to date at http://java.com/

               

              Make sure that Flash and Shockwave Players are up to date at http://adobe.com/
