      Environment

      McAfee CleanBoot 1.0

      Summary

CleanBoot 1.0 will reach End of Life on January 11th, 2008 as the McAfee Antivirus DAT files will exceed the memory allocation available within the CleanBoot 1.0 tool. Updating CleanBoot 1.0 with McAfee Antivirus DAT files released after January 11th, 2008 will cause CleanBoot 1.0 to no longer initialize. No other issues will be caused by this initialization failure.
      FAQs:

Q: Is there a replacement tool for CleanBoot 1.0?
A: No, there is no replacement tool for CleanBoot 1.0 available from McAfee.

Q: Can I continue running CleanBoot 1.0 and PreScan 1.0 SP2 without updating the DAT files?
A: CleanBoot 1.0 and PreScan 1.0 SP2 can continue to be used without updating the DAT files. However, the effectiveness of these tools will steadily decrease as McAfee Avert Labs is adding over 300 new threats a day to the McAfee Antivirus DAT files.

Q: What will happen if McAfee Antivirus DAT files are applied to CleanBoot 1.0 after January 11th, 2008?
A: If McAfee Antivirus DAT files are applied to CleanBoot 1.0 after January 11th, 2008 the tool will fail to initialize. That means that when attempting to run either of the tools, they will fail to run. No other issues will be caused by this initialization failure.
