The newest DAT and scan engine should be installed BEFORE the newest patch.. We've been updating to the newest DAT, then the 5200 scan engine (there IS a minimum DAT/definition file required before the new scan engine will install as well as the newest patch), then the newest patch. If you're doing it on a standalone machine, I install the Superdat (which installs the newest dat AND the 5200 scan engine), then I install the latest patch.
For example, on the Patch #15 "Readme" file, it states:
Patch Release: 18 January 2007
This release was developed and tested with:
- VirusScan Enterprise: 8.0i
- DAT Version: 4930, January 2 2007
- Engine Version: 5.1.00
Make sure you have installed these versions before
using this release.
Obviously, those are "minimum" levels for both items but the initial release of 8.0i doesn't install those during setup.
Hope this helps.
Thank and appreciate for you respond.
Actually my environment is full of the standalone machines with VSE 8.0 Patch 13, due to Engine 5100 will going EOL next year. Effort to upgrading to Engine 5200 become necessary. So, i just upgrading to 5200 engine directly on few systems without installing latest patch.
The concern and doubt that I see here is 5200 engine will not work stable with older patch. The reason is latest patch will fix problems and upgrade to filter driver, plugin file and other dll file. Although McAfee engine released in independent package, i suggest it should determine minimum requirement patch before installing engine 5200.
Correct me if I am have wrong perception here.
We had no such problems.. And besides, if you update to the 5200 engine one day, then immediately update to the newest patch, I see no real issue.
Hope this helps.
Our systems that are still running 8.0 are only on Patch 10... And all but I think 1 or two are showing an engine of less than 5200.
i think it doesn't matter which one comes first...
For patch 15 you need to have the 5100 engine installed first
For patch 16 you need to have the 5200 engine installed first
Thats as far as it goes, they advise this will work if you do this and if you dont.. maybe/maybe not.
Million thank and appreciate again for the feedback! :)
I have no problem now to get better secure and compliance AV in my environment systems.
Thank again and have a nice day!
