I don't know if what I have on my machine is the same Security Scan Plus that you have, although I assume it is : I see no command line options. The Help for this just says it can be uninstalled in the normal way. If you do find a method for unattended removal I'll make a note of it for future reference.
ya i saw that too... wasnt very helpful.
Googling produces plenty of other instances of this happening, and one or two sensible suggestions for removing SSP. Try this one, from http://www.kombitz.com/2010/12/06/silent-uninstallation-of-mcafee-security-scan- plus-2-0/
I have gotten several requests from my users to uninstall the program. Here is a tip for system admins. You can do silent uninstallation by putting this command into a script.
"%ProgramFiles%\McAfee Security Scan\uninstall.exe" /S
"%ProgramFiles(x86)%\McAfee Security Scan\uninstall.exe" /S
This works with the McAfee Security Scan Plus version 2.0 that is downloaded from Adobe. It does not work with the latest version 3.0.
Another suggestion is to remove the Adobe product using the reverse group policy that put it all there in the first place and then redoing the whole thing, this time taking care to exclude that optional download. Hopefully that will remove both Adobe and Security Scan Plus, although that isn't guaranteed of course. and replace only Adobe.
"%ProgramFiles(x86)%\McAfee Security Scan\uninstall.exe" /S only brings up the uninstaller with a Remove and a Cancel button. i mentioned in the origonal post that /S did nothing.
Removing Adobe Reader doesn't remove the Security Scan Plus software...
This was not deployed through any group policy, these were people tricked into installing it when they went to install the latest version of adobe reader themselves.
It's not a trick as the option not to install it is there, but if people are in a hurry it is easy to overlook I will admit and we have complained bitterly about it.
Unfortunately marketing has the upper hand here and there is nothing we can do about it.
Other Adobe products offer Norton Security Scan which is pretty-well identical so I would imagine similar complaints are flooding into their forums.
Have you tried your support portal? Sorry I can't help more as I am on the consumer side.
It only takes them a minute to remove in the normal manner.
I'd have to disagree, having it auto-selected to download the Scan Plus software is a trick. If it wasn't it wouldn't be selected in the first place and the user would select it if they actually wanted it.
Security Scan Plus is a Mcafee product, this is a Mcafee forum, if I am not posting in the right forum can a moderator please put this thread in the right area.

What do you mean by this? Isn't this forum the support portal?
