Unable to upgrade the CMA agent

Hello, today i had i mind troubling issue with upgrading the Mcafee viruscan 8.0 i to 8.5i.
In order to upgrade the Antivirus the CMA agent needs to be upgraded to CMA3.6.0.
Tried to launch the FramePKG.exe to begin the installation and so remove or upgrade the CMA 3.5.5 on the affected server. After 10 minutes i get an error, which directs me to the Frameinstall logs. Whe consulting the logs i can see that an time out occurs. The Setup wizzard needs to be forced to quit.
Tried the setup again, nu luck.
Checked services, only the frameworks service is disabled. Reenabled the service, and stared the setupwizzard again. Than i found out that the wizzard disables the service, in its setup. again the setup times out whith the same characteristics. Performed a forced uninstall, but it also times out. This time "end 1603" is reported in the log files. Removed registry entries but still no luck.
How come i always run into this kinde of issue's regarding simple Mcafee products???

          more info needed.

I assume this is manual install of fr***?
Is this a blank version with no built in admin rights?
          what OS?
are you logged in as local admin?
what version of CMA were you trying to update?
have you tried just removing CMA first with frminst.exe /forceunistall from run command?

If you cant get around it:

          remove VSE from add remove
attempt to remove CMA with frminst.exe /forceunistall
if errors kill framework and any other mcafee services left
delete HKEY/LM mcafee and network associates keys
          clear temp folders
delete all users ...application... mcafee or network associates folders
remove mcafee startups from windows startup in registry
          reboot
delete previously locked common framework files
          install latest version of CMA

Started of by lounching the FramePKG.exe (CMA3.6.0), when that failed tried the /forceuninstall from the command line (still no success).

IF its server make sure when you log in to use the /console switch on RDP or you will never get nowhere..

ie it will never complete or do anything usefull.

                      c:\documents and settings\all users\local settings\Application Data\...
Yes wthis was the app path and is where to look for look for some left over junk

you may still have some folders left in the CMA install folders (previously locked framework files) if so delete these after reboot

after reboot you should be totally clean and able to install the latest version
