Which patch do you have installed on your VS 8.0i machine? It should be either Patch # 14 or # 15. If it's not, please use your grant number to download and install the appropriate patch.
Next, please note that there is a new 5200 scan engine which should be used. Install it manually by clicking on the link below and download the most recent Superdat file which contains the current virus definitions PLUS the new scan engine. (You may have to click on the "Agree" button after first clicking on the link.)
Next, since spyware problems can cause such issues, have you done a thorough full system scan with antispyware tools? If not, please do so.
If everything else above is fine, then access the "Network Associates Mcshield" service, (click on Start-run, type: services.msc , then click on OK.) , then click on the "REcovery" tab, then change the "First Failure" line to "Restart the Service". Then click on "Apply", OK, etc.
Hope this helps.
I have also found similar problem
Network Associates McShield service terminated unexpectedly on server. . It has done this 2 time(s).
Machine is up to date with recent virus scan patch, engine, DAT.
Still the services are terminating unexpectedly.
I have the exact same problem.
Please update to a supportable product.
VSE 8.0i will not have any further engineering work done to improve it. This means, if a fault were confirmed to exist it would not be fixed.
When McShield crashes there is usually an event captured in the Application Event Log detailing why it failed.
You may be able to search on that error message in the knowledgebase for further assistance.
