Customers who plan to upgrade or migrate to Microsoft Windows 7 must also update their McAfee security products. Previous versions of McAfee security software will prevent upgrades to Windows 7, and installation of older versions will be blocked once Windows 7 is installed.

McAfee Consumer Product FAQ's are available through the Technical Support link at top left of this page.

In short, if you have Security Center 9.3 or lower it is not compatible with Windows 7. Security Center 9.11 and above is compatible with Windows 7 (x86 and

      x64).

To check which version of Security Center you have double-click the taskbar icon to open it (or right-click>Open SecurityCenter) then click "About" in the lower right-hand corner of the window.

Those of you who obtain McAfee protection from a 3rd party source, such as your ISP or PC maker, are restricted to whatever version they offer.

This information is directed to home users, Small Business customers please check your support portal and Enterprise the Corporate section lower down the main forum index page.

If your protection hasn't yet updated to the latest you can expedite it by doing the following:

Enable Windows Firewall until finished. (The installation of McAfee Personal Firewall should automatically disable it later on).

      1. Uninstall all McAfee programs through "Add or Remove Programs" in Windows "Control Panel".

      2. Use the MCPR tool, see this article: How to remove supported McAfee consumer products using the McAfee Consumer Products Removal tool (MCPR.exe).

This will remove all McAfee remnants from your computer. (you must have Windows Vista, XP or 2000 SP4 to use this tool)

      3. Launch Windows Explorer and delete all McAfee files in "Program Files" but especially in "C:\Document and Settings\<user>\Application Data" and "C:\Document and Settings\All Users\Application Data". You have to set Windows Explorer to show all hidden files and folders (Tools > Folder Options > View tab). Just delete the McAfee folders even if they are empty in all the "Application Data" folders. Can be more than one!

      In Vista: C:\Program Files, C:\ProgramData and C:\Users\yourname\AppData\Roaming

If you can't find these files don't worry. It just means that MCPR has done its job.

      4. Reboot and redownload/reinstall your McAfee products directly from your account at the McAfee web site.
