There is no direct upgrade path. You have to do a clean install and recreate the rules. It's an irritating thing to have happen, but you have to keep in mind that it's a complete rewrite of the product. About the only thing that seems to have survived the change is the category list (and even that is dropped back to Set 3 in 7.0; you only get Set 4 in 7.1). Most other companies would have called this Acme Web Gateway 1.0 and announced it as a replacement for Webwasher.
Depending on your complexity, this can be good or bad. I chose to take the opportunity to clean up a lot of things. It's going to be another 6-12 months (or longer) before we are completely off of Webwasher, but it also means we'll be dropping from more than 130 policies down to about 18.
No easy upgrade path.
Thats fine. I'm just getting started with this machine right now.
Its just I cant seem to find where I download the files or what I need to do.
put in my grant number
Click on McAfee web gateway
All I get is ePolicy orchestrator and web reporter downloads.
The upgrade guide doesn't say how to get the update software or even a hint of how to start the re-install.
You need to login to your extranet account to access the ISO downloads.
This is talked about in each of the release notes, but does not appear in the upgrade guide for some reason.
It is also talked about in the product guide under the setup portion (chapter 2):
To get an extranet account setup (extranet.webwasher.com), I would suggest giving a call in to have a customer service rep set you up with one, call 1.800.700.8328 option 7 (I believe for CS).
Thank you. I'm running 7.1 now!
Does anyone have any experience with mounting the IOS and running it in Linux? I can mount it just fine but I can't run it. I called TS but they didn't have a clue and told me to burn a CD.
I've never mounted the ISO to reimage the appliance, though I dont know how that would work because you are wiping the disk clean, so I cant picture how that would work at all.
Otherwise if you have a WG5000 or WG5500 you can use the remote access card (DRAC or RMM) to remotely mount the ISO and then reimage. This way would assume you have the DRAC or RMM configured.
I just went ahead and did the whole burn to disk dance to upgrade it.
