There are some things that can even fool security software.
Try booting into Safe Mode with Networking by tapping F8 while booting up.
It's second choice on the ensuing menu.
When there go to Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore
Try to initiate a System Restore to before all this happened.
If it's successful then you should be able to boot normally.
Temporarily disable System Restore to delete the infected restore point.
Make sure you update the system and any time-sensitive application (such as McAfee) immediately afterwards.
If it doesn't then post back and we'll try something else. Meanwhile others may offer advice as they patrol this section.
thank you for helping me, i have a question though, If i restore back to a date, say 3 weeks ago, will i have lost all my work i have been doing on my comp for the last 3 weeks?
Documents and personal stuff should be preserved. This only restores the computer system to a previous state. Just hope the problem isn't in your personal stuff.
found the solution. Went to Futureshop and bought Norton, uninstalled MCafee and put Norton in. Fixed it on the first scan.
