Two questions here, both about being in Edit mode.
On this occasion I attempted to switch tabs to Google something, clicked on the Home icon, came back to the reply tab ... and found that Google was running in that tab. Okay, probably my fault for running ahead of myself. But when I went back to the thread, the reply had not been sent (I didn't think it would), and clicking on Reply opened a fresh Edit window - meaning the previously-entered text was lost.
Now, first question : during editing, Jive used to autosave. If the edit failed there was always a saved copy that you could recover and use. Not this time though. Has that useful facility been withdrawn in the upgrade?
Second : I may be wrong on this, but I thought that before, if an attempt was made to navigate away from an open edit window, there would be a pop-up message saying "Do you want to navigate away?". Or am I recalling a facility from some other site?
Either way, having both of the above safeguards would be useful. I have to reconstruct that reply from scratch, and I can't remember some of the detail that I had included.
Second this noticed there is no restore option if I crash the pc used to have a do you want to go to saved option or similiar.
April, this is another unresolved issue. I just did a test and if you accidentally navigate away from an opened Edit window there is no check in place to stop you doing it. The entered text is lost. Can this be fixed? This is a change from the way the previous version of Jive behaved.
Hi Hayton, I'm not aware of a popup that warns you about navigating away from the page you're on. Maybe this was something in our previous version that's been lost with the upgrade, but I'm not sure.
The system should auto save and remember your content if you navigate away though this may have certain time contraints. Usually if the system has had time to cache the content, it will give you a "recover" button if you navigate back. I've used this many times but not very recently. I'll have to test this.
This is a post that I navigated away from, and then back to, and the system saved my content. I was in advanced edit mode. I'll try again in regular mode.
Ok, if you're just replying in regular mode, the URL does not changed to the edit window. It stays as the thread URL, in this case: https://community.mcafee.com/message/187491
But if I switch to Advanced mode, the URL changes to https://community.mcafee.com/post!reply.jspa.
I suspect this is how it's saved in cache, and it explains why regular (non-advanced) reply edit windows are not cached.
Thanks April. Regular mode is the default, and I think when I tried it a while back the edit window was in Regular not Advanced. Is there a way to make Advanced the default?
