Page loading delays : screenshots

The problems with page loading in IE8 seem to have eased slightly over the past few days, perhaps something to do with modifications elsewhere that have seen the level of CPU activity caused by loaded but otherwise inactive pages come down from levels of 15 - 40 per cent to between 6 and 15 per cent.

It still seems that page loading and/or rendering is interrupted at intervals, perhaps by the many blocks of javascript which are embedded in the page source code. An analysis of the page code for the Home & Home Office main page shows 37 blocks of inline javascript; some of them of course will be executed conditionally (some of them are dependent on IE browser version).  In addition to these 37, there are 17 places in the code which reference external javascript files (14 unique references, 3 duplicates).

These external javascript files are coming from the following locations :

/themes/mcafee-global/js/default.js  (sic)

The last two of these are downloaded onto my PC, along with javascript files from : 1298306137  (a 58Kb file, one relevant line at head reads :-

There are also very many files being downloaded from

All of this activity seems to freeze page display at certain key points, while CPU activity remains at very high levels. I have taken screenshots of those places where the delays occur (as best I can. I need a video replay to do it justice.)
