    Agent Handler Not Listed in ePO

    gng4life

      Hello,

      I am trying to set up an Agent Handler with my VM.  I have a 4.5 ePO VM and a few clients.  I opened a basic Win2K3 VM to act as an AH.  I took the AH file from the MA 4.5 folder and installed it.  It installs fine and I see the Apache service running.  When I look at the AH in ePO, it never shows up.  I made groups for it and put the correct IP in the assignment.  I can ping them and the FW is turned off.

      What am I missing?  Does the AH have to have a MA client on it?  From reading the white paper, it doesn't appear that way.  I have googled around but still haven't found a solution or some good troubleshooting steps that I can go through.

      Thanks in advance for your help...

          Which file you have copied from MA 4.5 folder?

          AH package will be inside the ePO software package. Please extract the ePO software package. Inside there will be a folder 'agent Handler'. Please run the Setup.exe from this location.

            This would tend to imply that the AH can't talk to SQL, so it can't write its details to the DB. Check the server.log on the AH - are there any obvious errors?

            HTH -

              Yeah, that's what I did.  The install is working now.  At first, it would fail and I found I had a duplicate key that I had to delete then it installed correctly.  I just put wireshark on the AH so I am waiting to see any traffic to the ePO.

              Thanks...

                Sure, I checked it this morning and this is what I saw:

                Any idea?  Is it trying to connect on a port and not able to?  What is error 1387?  The COM Error is probably the fail to connect to SQL, right?  Thanks for any help...

                  Couple of things, I will suggest you to check here.

                  1. From the log posted, I see communication error with database

                  20110201035236 E #1420 DAL     COM Error :80004005 in DAL2_CConnection::GetConnection

                  20110201035236 E #1420 DAL     Meaning = Unspecified error

                  20110201035236 E #1420 DAL     Source = Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers

                  20110201035236 E #1420 DAL     Description = [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified

                  20110201035237 E #1420 DAL     COM Error :80004005 in DAL2_CConnection::GetConnection

                  20110201035237 E #1420 DAL     Meaning = Unspecified error

                  I will suggest you to check the DB connectivity through UDL as per KB#:KB70929.

                  2. Second message I see 'Failed to add user ePOXX\administrator to epo group'.  Is the machine where you are trying to install AH is in Workgroup?

                  If yes then please use SQL account while installing AH rather than using NT account (while running AH setup, please uncheck the box 'user ePO credentials')

                    Yes, they are both in a workgroup called Workgroup.  Both are VMs and have full conntivity, pings are fine, I put a client on and it checked in, received packages, etc.  No HIPS on the client, there is HIPS on the ePO but the FW and HIPS/NIPS are disabled.  I can't see why it can't connect to the DB.  What are the ports that are needed?  Maybe the ports are incorrect?  Some ports are greyed out and can't be changed, does anyone know why?  Thanks for all the help...
