Have you tried running McAfee Virtual Technician which you can find at the top of the page under Useful Links.
When I hover over 'Useful Links' I do not see anything which says 'Virtual Technician' Where is it ?
Under Useful links, did you click downloads, it should be there.
OK I'll try it. You didn't say 'Downloads' to begin with.
Sorry, I should have specified that.
You could access the McAfee virtual technician from here : http://mvt.mcafee.com and make sure that you post you session id back here.
Also, let us know some of the details of your computer ;
What is the operating system installed ?
Do you have any other security software installed ?
Did you perform any recent changes to your computer like a system restore ?

I've joined this discussion because I keep having the same problem. We have a PC and laptop on a home network and both the Laptop (Vista) and PC (XP) have this over and over.
Today the PC refuses to keep McAfee antivirus on and endlessly switches it off (on the PC) and NOW I cannot function any software or the IE8.
I had upgraded some anti spyware today which found a Trojan and removed it....but booted |(again!) this time in Safe Mode and removed the software in case causing more problems itself...
Now using a regulare familiar anti spyware to check nothing else happening...currently running on the main PC
McAfee's unreliability is very worrying as the whole point of this software is to protect the system...
Hi - I just got a McAfee anti virus program because it appears that I have been infected by this so called Mac Protector. I keep getting pop up web sites and advertisements. Not sure how to go at this thing. Anyone familiar with this.
You mean this?
Mcafee should detect it have you updated mcafee?
If above fails try
I am not a mac product user so guessing so try above and get back to us if still an issue
