So the daily checking manually works? What dat are you at now? Should be around 6229.
Possible that a clean uninstall reinstall will fix this up

So you say to uninstall and install it again. This was not the case earlier. It used to do things on its own. But, all of a sudden it started showing up this message.
Anyhow i will give a try and check whether it fixes this issue.
Yes that is 1st thing to try the chat techs will get you to do it if you contact them.
After uninstall reboot then run below before reinstalling .
just try resetting the Internet Explorer once
1. Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced -> Reset
Then Try updating the mcafee , even then still you have the issue then reply me
