McAfee version number 22.214.171.1240
Sorry, what version is it? That isn't a version that I am familiar with except perhaps one of our beta products and that would be an internal number rather than an actual version.
It it the beta product or perhaps an Enterprise product that you are referring to?
Have you tried booting into "Safe Mode with Networking" by tapping F8 repeatedly while booting up, going to My Computer and right-clicking the hard drive and selecting "Scan"?
It should be able to run in that mode.
There is some required reading HERE.
You might want to try this, also in "Safe Mode with Networking".
Download, install, update and run a full scan using the FREE verrsion of THIS software. Let it remove anything it finds and reboot immediately afterwards and re-run in regular mode.
One or more of the above steps should cure what ails your machine.
I moved this provisionally to Malware Discussions > Home User Assistance but will move it again if necessary pending your response.
The icon in the task bar is a sheild shape, red with a white M in the middle.
I've tried to run in safe mode but there is no option to scan when I right click on my computer or any of the drives.
I also can't find McAfee anywhere in safe mode.
I still think you are in the wrong place on this board. 126.96.36.1990 is the version number for an Enterprise product. Can't you give me a clue as to what the name is for the McAfee product you are talking about?
I can't begin to help without knowing what product we are discussing.
I'm attaching the details from the product. No idea what the product is called, how could I find out?
The laptop is a work laptop and the AV was installed by them but I thought it was a standalone version since they usually do stuff like that. From what you're saying that is not the case. I'm in a different country to my IT guys at the moment which is why I'm posting here.

You are using ePO which is handled here: https://community.mcafee.com/community/business/epo however I have moved this to Corporate User Assistance in the malware discussions and hopefully someone will spot it.
I have no knowledge of the corporate products so can't begin to suggest what to do, sorry.
I've flagged this for a moderator to handle it.
