It would help to know what operating system and service pack you are running plus what McAfee version you have.
As this is apparently a rogue defrag tool, conventional antivirus tools are most likely ineffective against it.
I am required to have you read this first: https://community.mcafee.com/docs/DOC-1294
Although I doubt it will be of much help in this case.
Try downloading the FREE version of THIS tool. Update it and run a full scan and let it remove anything it finds and reboot immediately if asked to.
If for some reason Win HDD prevents this in normal mode, the last line can all be achieved in "Safe Mode with Networking" reached by tapping F8 repeatedly while booting up.
It is usually the second choice in the ensuing menu.
If that too is ineffective then I would follow the Hijackthis instructions in the lower half of this sticky post: https://community.mcafee.com/thread/1996
Edit: There's a pretty good removal guide on the web here: http://www.myantispyware.com/2010/11/27/how-to-remove-win-hdd-uninstall-instruct ions/
Thankyou for the suggested steps to remove WinHDD. We followed them and have removed from the laptop.
Once again thanks
You are very welcome and good luck.
I am having the exact same problem. I went to bed last night and my computer was fine, when I got home from work today I was bombarded by Win HDD and its threats. I tried the suggestions using the anti-malware program but when I ran the quick scan it did not catch it. I currently have the full scan running but I was wondering if there is another way to get rid of this thing? I have completely lost my desktop and task bar so it is very difficult to do much and I am in the middle of finals and projects and I need this things erased IMMEDIATELY.
I believe I have the very same virus currently running jolly on my system right now; however, the title of the malware on the main screen say "win defrag" and not "win HDD"; do you happen to know if this is really the same virus. I'm looking at various sources and the image and symptoms seem to all be much the same. My guess is that it is.
Also, while running the scan, McAfee's real time scanning was off; attemtping to turn it on causes it to go green, but then it goes off again. It was fully updated before I entered safe mode. I'm thinking it is supposed to be off for safe mode.

BleepingComputer has a removal guide for Win HDD:
