Clients not downloading VSE8.7 - error occured while downloading error

    tonyharding

      Hi

We have epo 4.0 (patch 7) console - agents are4.5 (patch 1) clients - clients are a mixture of xp and 2003 servers.

For some reason when we now deploy new clients - we install the agent without any problems. The agent then tries to download the VSE8.7i (patch 4). I can see in the agent that it errors when trying to download certian files.

eg Error occurred while downloading VIRUSCAN8700(195).ZIP

      then the setup doesnt run.

I have tried installing older clients and also tried older versions of VSE8.7i (patch 3). All our new clients are now having this problem. I have removed the software from the console and reinstalled the software which freshly downloaded files but nothing seems to work.

I have raised a call with Mcafee but so far nothing has come back from them.

Does anyone know of a fix for this issue ?

      many thanks

      Tony

Okay, that's a bit unusual.  VIRUSCAN8700(195).ZIP is the VSE extension file, and as such should only be used by the server - it's not part of the VSE install that the client machines receive, so they shouldn't be asking for it.

Can you post the pkgcatalog.z file from the DB\Software\Current\VIRUSCAN8700\Install\0000 folder on the ePO server?

          Thanks -

Okay, this file is radically different to the one in the repost package - if you compare the sizes between this one and the one in the listing in your other post you'll see this one is much larger.

Are you using MID to create a modified package at all?

              Thanks -

yes i did use the MID packager. But i have also tried the original download without running it through the MID - still the same thing.

Just an update if i copy the files into the install directory on the client it installs without any problem. The problem is that it will not download all the install files from the server.

Yep, that's what I'm looking at. When the deployment task runs on the client machine, the pkgcatalog.z file tells it which files to request from the repository in order to install the product. The default package's pkgcatalog doesn't mention the viruscan8700(195).zip file, whereas the larger one you posted does.

I realise you may have been through this process before, but humour me

Delete the VirusScan package and any related packages (patches, hotfixes etc.) from the master repository via the ePO console (i.e. don't just delete things from the file system.)

Check the master repository folders on the ePO server and make sure that all VIRUSCAN8700 folders have gone

Assuming they have, perform an incremental replication to your distributed repositories (if you have them)  -this should clear out the VIRUSCAN8700 folders on the dist repos.

Then check in the default VirusScan 8.7 + Patch 4 package again

This will recreate the VIRUSCAN8700 folder structure in the master repo. At this point, post the new pkgcatalog.z file - I need to have a look at it.

                    Thanks -

                      Hi Joe

I have done what you have asked and now just installed the default Mcafee VSE8.7i with patch 4 into the console - the clients are now complaining about downloading VSE870.msi.

                      Thanks

Okay, that's more like what I would expect to see. So, is the VSE870.msi file present in the repository (in the same folder as the pkgcatalog.z?)

                        Thanks -
