are you sure that McAfee virusScan is completely blocking any installations or it "just" prevents some installer actions due to which the installer says " I'm sorry.." ?
You should be able to open the VirusScan console and see if the Access Protection module is enabled there.
For a short time please disable this module and try installing a progam that has failed in the past.
If it succeeds then you need to refine some rules within Access Protection module (please consult this manual attached here, or the VirusScan manual).
