No antivirus will stop everything that is out there unfortunately, especially this kind of malware.
There's an excellent removal guide here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-thinkpoint
Scroll down that page as the first links you see are all advertising.
I used Malwarebytes to clean my computer and that seems to have worked. However, McAfee Virtual Technician still wil not run - it freezes about 20 seconds into the scan. I had hoped for better things from Mcafee!
Think point has infected my computer even though I have Mcafee protection. However it only affects one user at present, so I can access mircosoft programmes using another user account. I read the advice on how to get rid of the virus......but is this the official solution? It is suggesting that I go to an untrusted site and download something else. I thought one of the basics of security was not to download from unknown sites? Looking at google I can see that I am not alone in being infected, but nothing on Microsoft or Mcafee about this virus or trojan or whatever this is. As a normal PC user with limited 'technical' knowledge I'm not sure what I should do.......and dissappointed that both Mcafee and Microsoft don't seem to be providing support. Or is it normal to solve these problems though forums. Does anyone validate the advice given out here?
Grateful for guidance, kind regards
Sorry I've been in Europe for 2 weeks...please follow my advice above.
Malwarebyte was able to remove mine no problem from my Vista 64-bit. http://www.malwarebytes.org/ I have no issues with the computer running slow at all. Then again, no memory processes or memory programs were affected by any malware.
