ePO 4.5 - which count is correct?

    pschmehl

I have a brand new ePO 4.5 install.  It appears to have the same problem that ePO 4.0 had.  It can't count.

      Rogue Systems - 3,606 managed systems + 2,551 rogues = 6157 systems detected

Detected Systems - 3,745 with 4.5.0.1499 agent installed

Rogue Systems by OS - 930 Windows systems

Rogue Systems - managed plus rogue Windows - 3,736.  Where's the other 9?

      Compliant/Non-compliant systems - 2023/821=2844 - where's the other 900 or so?

      Queries - System Management/Unmanaged Systems - 6451 - huh?

                  - VSE: Version 8.7 compliance - 9 compliant, 10,180 non-compliant - in what universe?

                  - MA: Agent Version Summary - 6451 - Nada, 3732 - 4.5.0.1499, 1 - 4.5.0.1453 (Mac OS) - Total 10,184 - ...but I thought you said 10,180.....

                  - TOPS: McAfee Agent and VirusScan (for Windows) Compliance Summary - 2023 compliant, 821 non-compliant - 2844 total - finally something matches - oh wait, that's the same one....

                  - Number of managed systems by VSE version - 6489 - Nada, 3377 - 8.7.0.570.Wrk, 299 - 8.7.0.570.Srv, 26 - 8.5.0.781.Wrk - Total  - 10,191

Now I admit I can't count real gud, but this is ridiculous.

Questions I should be able to answer with the same numbers every time:

      1) How many total systems has ePO detected? (Windows, Mac, Linux, Printers, Unknown, etc.,etc.)?

      2) How many total systems are managed by ePO (meaning their agent actually talks to the server)?

      3) How many of those managed systems are compliant in every way?

That would be nice, don't you think?  Since it affects my licensing, you would think McAfee would want those numbers to be right as well.......

The big gotcha that catches most people is that the compliance queries are filtered by default: the filter is "must have communicated in the last one day." This means that if a machine hasn't talked to the server in the last 24 hours it is excluded from the result set - not flagged as non-compliant.  If you want the compliance reports to definitely list all machines, remove the filter.

This catches a lot of people

          HTH -

            OK.  Revised figures:

            Rogue Systems - 3,628 managed systems + 2,548 rogues = 6172 systems detected

Detected Systems - 3,766 with 4.5.0.1499 agent installed

Rogue Systems by OS - 908 Windows systems

Rogue Systems - managed plus rogue Windows - 3,736.  Where's the other 30?

            Compliant/Non-compliant systems - 2132/1290=3422 - where's the other 300 or so?

            Queries - System Management/Unmanaged Systems - 6451 - huh?

                        - VSE: Version 8.7 compliance - 9 compliant, 10,180 non-compliant - in what universe?

                         - MA: Agent Version Summary - 6451 - Nada, 3732 - 4.5.0.1499, 1 -  4.5.0.1453 (Mac OS) - Total 10,184 - ...but I thought you said  10,180.....

                        - TOPS: McAfee Agent and VirusScan (for  Windows) Compliance Summary - 2023 compliant, 821 non-compliant - 2844  total - finally something matches - oh wait, that's the same one....

                         - Number of managed systems by VSE version - 6489 - Nada, 3377 -  8.7.0.570.Wrk, 299 - 8.7.0.570.Srv, 26 - 8.5.0.781.Wrk - Total  - 10,191

The filter on the compliant/non-compliant systems makes a difference, obviously (I set it to 1 week - the server has been up for one week), but that still doesn't explain the numerical disparities between the reports.  Which do I have?  6172 systems?  10,180 systems?  (I can guarantee you that number is wildly wrong!), 10, 184 systems?  6451 systems?  It makes no sense at all.

Filters or no filters, reports should be consistent in the way that they report.  Otherwise they are worthless.  What numbers do I report to my management when they ask me how many systems are managed by ePO?  How many are compliant?  How many are not managed?  How many total systems I have?
