Unable to find a valid repository

      Hello all.  We are running EPO 4.5 P1 and VSE 8.7i P2.  I know we are a bit behind on patches but change management is an absolute pain to deal with.  Anyway I think I am having two seperate issues;

Issue #1  This is the most important issue.  I have some clients that will quit updating with an error message Unable to find valid repository.  Nothing has changed they just stopped updating.

Issue #2  Some clients (mostly servers) are not running thier nightly update task.  Every morning there are a number of clients that I will have to perform an "Update Now" to get them to update.  After that they update fine and will not show up on our EPO Compliance report until 3 days later when their DATs are not within 3 days of the current.

      Any help would be appreciated.

      Thanks

          - What agent version are you running?

          - Have you tried re-installing the agent and forcing a policy refresh?

            Thanks for the response Tristan.

            Cleints are on 4.5 SP0

Havent tried a re-install.  I can give that a whirl, but if this does fix it I am curious to know why it stopped working all of a sudden.

              Hello kire98,

here are my quick tips for you:

Issue #1: Please find McScript.log on the clients and locate a section with the log entries pertaining the update process. Try to find an entry that precedes the "Unable to find a valid repository" entry, which can provide more information of the error.

Issue#2: Please check what is said about the nightly update task in the McAfee Agent log (http://clientname:8081, or Agent_hostname.log on the client) and try to find why the task did not start. Make sure you see the update task in VirusScan Console, too (provided the "Show managed task in Virusscan console" option is enabled in Virusscan policy for servers and workstations).

If you want, post these two logs with information of task names and start times, here, for us to look at.

              Attila

Also having Issue #1, where the client now always fails to update with "Unable to find a valid repository." written to the log. Other clients in the same vlan are fine, so I tried installing Patch 3, (Clients are 8.7i Patch 2 atm - EPO is 4.5 Patch 3, EPOAgent is 4.5), editing the autoupdate list to update from McAfeeHttp, but no joy.

Cannot find a "McScript.log" on the client.

Issue #2 I have had in the past and resolved by switching the schedule off and back on:

Enter the properties of the Autoupdate Task in the Client Console.

Select Schedule, untick Enable, click Apply, click ok.

                Schedule is now "Not scheduled"

Enter the properties of the Autoupdate Task

Select Schedule, tick Enable, click Apply, click ok.

The Autoupdate task then seems to work trouble free from then on.

                  McScript.log is located under \Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\McAfee\Common Framework\Db.

Please find a - managed and failed  - update task output section therein and look for possible "NAinet library returned code= XX" entry before the final "Unable to find a valid repository" message.

Code XX denotes the actual problem, some of which can be looked up in McAfee KB. Unfortunately as usual, there are rather n article with individual entries for the same phenomenon, instead of publishing just one with all known/possible nainet library code resolution, but chances are you'll find one that fits your problem.

I, too, have this problem on one of my computers, but since I could not find resolution for my error code of -6, I just guess that this is because the host uses IE 8 and MA 4.0.1494 cannot fetch the proxy information.

                  Attila

                      And solved! (Mine anyhow)

My system temp variable was pointing to c:\windows\temp, I think another admin probably removed the folder as the server was low on disk space.
