    Real Help needed unexpected installs

    Rob343

Hi guys hope you can get me out of a big hole.

It looks like somebody has deployed EEPC to 1500 machine that shouldn't have had it. now this has maxed out our license count. i really need to remove it off all these machines. i have a list of the machines it has gone to. is there a script of command line i can batch up to send out.

If i look on one of the machines that its gone to it just keeps saying creating database entry, but it hasn't.

Help please need to get it fixed before everybody logs on on monday if i can.

      Thanks

      Rob

If you ran out of licences, then it won't activate on the machine - it will throw a "Licence Count Exceeded" error.

No, there's no way remotely to remove the product if it could not register itself. You'll have to go to each machine and run "sbsetup -uninstall" from the directory you installed it into.

I guess you could write a script to do that though using vbs/wmi/sms or whatever?

The machines which did register are easy - just set their policy in EEM to "remove and reboot" and the client will decrypt and uninstall itself. It's the ones which have not yet registered which are the problem.

You could set the properties of the group that machines are installing into to "remove and reboot" (assuming it's not a controlled group anyway) - then all new machines which try to register would instead uninstall - could be an option for you?

Thinking about it, the best option is for you to call your account manager and buy some more licences!

when i try 'sbsetup -uninstall' it says it can as boot protection is enabled ?

              • 4. Re: Real Help needed unexpected installs

then this must be one of the machines which did register itself? If the boot protection is enabled, then you can only remove the product by changing the policy or using SafeTech etc to decrypt it first.

you can only use sbsetup -uninstall on a machine which has not got the boot code active.

The alternate explanation is that you installed it on XP64, which is not supported at all.

i have found a machine where the tray icon isn't presant, so it hasn't been reboot since install. i tried 'sbsetup -uninstall' and i get the "Endpoint Encryption is still enabled......" message would this be because i created the instals from an enabled group ? if so is there anyway around this with them connecting back to the server or using Wintech

Ans: No tray icon that does not means that machine has not been rebooted. there are many other cause can prevent tray icon to load

ans: No, your assumption is wrong here. creating installation set from enabled group does not effect on that. but some how Pre boot is enable on this machine. ( do you get PBA when you boot machine ??)

What is the status of encyprtion ?

(if you are sure there is no ecyption on machine . you can FIX MBR with windows console and than try sbsetup -uninstall)

Note: Be sure that machine is not encrypted.
