My PC started acting weird. First it would stop for a few seconds, then it starting disconecting from the internet, and had other online issues with pages not loading. Today I turned it on and it ran chkdsk, found a bunch of error, moved, and fixed files (don't recall exactly). It would then not let me connect to the internet at all. Antivirus would not start, crashed, etc. I eventually formatted the hard drive and reinstalled Windows (Vista Home Premium 64). I immediatly installed Mcafee from a download at mcafee), after much trouble and many reboots. It kept giving me errors that the "windows found a problem with this file" - "unknown publisher". I receive this error with any antivirus software or scanning utility. I eventually got mcafee to install.
Now when I run mcafee security center, it says real-time scanning is disabled. When I turn it on, it turns itself off immediatly. When I attempt to do an update, it says cannot update. WHen I click scan (quick or complete) it says an error has occured.
I get other errors like IE stopping, DNS client stopped working, etc.
CHKDSK shows 16 lg file records, 44 reparse, 93318 index entries etc - it goes by to fast to catch everything (even after format chkdsk runs).
I have never seen a hardware failure act like this so I suspect it is a virus.
Please help - I have spent two days trying to figure this out.
