    UNABLE TO ACTIVATE!!

I recently got a laptop and bought the Total Protection 2010 software. I was unable to activate my product and still have been unsuccessful. In the update section it says that i have no internet connection even though i do have a connection. However, my internet is 64-bit rather than the traditional 32-bit. I was just wondering if I could get some assitance because I am in dire need of activation. I tried activating later through product setup but it still does not work. PLEASE HELP!

You say your connection is 64-bit, what exactly do you mean?  Are you using the 64-bit version of Internet Explorer rather than the default one which is 32-bit? (See attached image of the All Programs menu).   I would strongly advise you to use the latter as IE8 x64 is still a bit of a novelty and many add-ons don't work on it, yet, so it isn't advisable to use it.

          Try that.

Yes it is the 64-bit version of internet explorer. I actually am already using internet explorer 8 so do you have any other suggestions? I would just switch back to the 32-bit version but my internet provider only works on the 64-bit version so i'm unable to do that.

Your ISP only works on 64-bit browsers?   What kind of an ISP is that?  I would call them and ask for help to get it working on the 32-bit version as a) IE x64 isn't useful at all and b) the majority of people only have 32-bit browsers anyway so why doesn't it work on yours?

The 32-bit IE probably only needs setting up and having a few add-ons and plug-ins added, such as Adobe Flash & Shockwave and Java   Make sure it's at its default settings.

I suppose you could also try the latest version of Firefox but even so the 32-bit version of IE would have to be active and at its default settings because McAfee uses IE.

Failing that contact Technical Support Chat via Useful Links above.

But you have to get off that 64-bit browser as it wont be just McAfee that will act up otherwise.

You say "but i'm unable to download a lot of stuff now" - so it would appear that something is definitely wrong apart from the strange choice for browser.   I recommend you download Hijackthis and send the log to one of these forums for examination.  They will go through the processes listed and advise you what's best.  I suspect spyware onboard.

I am a computer VAR and install McAfee on my clients computers and have been having the same problem on multiple computers, none of which is running 64-bit.

These include several different Windows operating system and a brand-new out of the box laptop.  Is McAfee's registration server, just not able to handle the traffic?

Also, these are all new, retail 3-user packages of McAfee VirusScan Plus 2010.

I also find it very interesting that no one from McAfee has responded to this post.

Could be a server issue but the fastest place to have someone from McAfee give it attention is to contact Technical Support Chat via Useful Links or McAfee Support links at the top of this page.

Been there, done that.  Got cut off on the chat and sent an email with a reference number after waiting on hold for a really long time.

Thought this might be a more efficient use of my time.

Email support is extremely slow so don't hold your breath.  Chat at least can be escalated if necessary.  I would try that option again.
