    Does McAfee VSE8.7 support windows 2000 sp4?

I installed McAfee VSE8.7 for a windows 2000 sp4 server, but it can not updated the DAT file, the log shows: Unable to find a valid repository.

there are other 4 servers with the same McAfee and same OS and the same network configration, these 4 servers are work well, just diffrent between the problem server and properly server is the OS patch.

anyone can tell me, is this caused by OS patch? and which OS patch is neccessary for the McAfee VSE8.7 update?

      thanks all.

            Dear Dinesh,

can you teach more? i am a novice.

The McAfee installed commpleted, but can not updated the DAT files, below is the related log,

            2010-5-21           16:00:03            FLEX-FMTS_FEMQ\Administrator           Starting task:  AutoUpdate

            2010-5-21           16:00:39            FLEX-FMTS_FEMQ\Administrator           Unable to find a  valid repository.

            2010-5-21           16:00:39            FLEX-FMTS_FEMQ\Administrator           Update process  failed.

there are total 5 server with window2000 sp4, the 4 of them work well, the diffrent of this one is the OS patch, i guess whether is caused by the OS patch?

            thanks and regards,

              Hi,

please look for a file named McScript.log on your computer. If it exists, it has a more detailed logging of autoupdate. Perhaps it has an error message why it has considered the repository invalid.

Also: are you an enterprise user? Who installed virusscan on your computer? You or you got the computer with it from corporate IT?

                  Hi,

If you check the logfile, then you see the following errors:

                  2010-05-28 16:57:28 I #3512 naInet Unable to connect to 10.219.244.97 on port 8083.

                  2010-05-28 16:57:29 E #3512 naInet   Host address ducnt047.europe.ad.flextronics.com seems invalid.

                  2010-05-28 16:57:33 I #3512 naInet Unable to connect to DUCNT047 on port 8083.

                  2010-05-28 16:57:33 E #3512 naInet   Host address DUCNT047 seems invalid.

So it seems that none of your update servers are reachable from your client. Can you verify that you can reach the first or second server?

                  You could try in console:

                  telnet 10.219.244.97 8083

That should give you a black window if it works. If you get an error like this here:

Connecting To epo_server...Could not open connection to the host, on port 8083: Connect failed

then is your server blocked on some firewall or similar.
