Yes, bindings are tied to connectors. If connectors are disabled, bindings do not matter.
But once connector is run, it will try to find user objects and place them in original groups based on user object bindings.
You can remove bindings or even re-assign bindinds using AddBinding, ChangeBindingName and obtain binding info using DumpUserBinding.
