There was a bad update sent out which has since been withdrawn & replaced by a good one.
Boot into Safe Mode and go to C:\Program Files\McAfee\VirusScan\DAT and delete the contents of that folder.
Reboot and hopefully it will update correctly.
If that fails try System Restore to before yesterday's update, then when you reboot right-click the taskbar icon and select Updates.
I moved this provisionally to Home & Home Office > SecurityCenter 10 from Community Help but as you don't mention what products you are using perhaps you could clarify that and I will then put it in the proper spot.
I try but there isnt the folder DAT and I found McAfee folder into c:\Prorgrams
I use McAfee VirusScan Enterprise ver 8.5i

I solved the problem,
McAfee was causing the whole, the second-last update 21/04 DAT5859 deleted the file svchost.exe
I solved this by copying files from another PC with the same configuration, XP SP3, and copy to the PC broke then I uninstalled mcafee, all in safe mode
Then I reinstalled and updated to the latest DAT mcaffe issued
