    Issue with MCSVHOST.exe

Mcsvhost.exe (Integrated Security Platform, installed with an update annex new layout Apl 14) repeatedly causes the following event warning: "Process **\MCSVHOST.EXE pid (xxxx) contained unsigned or corrupted code and was blocked from performing a privileged operation with a McAfee driver"
      - Event 514, mfehidk; first warning message dated 15-04.
      - Location of the file (version 1.0.180.0): /program files/common files/mcafee/mcsvchost
It seems an unhealthy situation -- although MVT does not point out a problem and the scanner itself reports the computer 'secure'.
There's an issue with shutting down (not) the computer as well, which might be related.  Because there are no noticeable problems with the scanner, I haven't approached Support (yet).
      - No information found in the Microsoft (Syscore) database.
      - OS: Vista Home Premium, Sp2, 32-bit
      - Scanner: 3-user McAfee Internet Security version 14.0.309

      Someone any ideas?

Pp/s - Just read 30 pages of a similar issue with McSvHost.exe (on Win-XP) here: http://community.mcafee.com/message/114746 and it doesn't make me optimistic regarding a fix...

I'm also having a simular problem with windows 7 64bit and MCSVHOST.exe seems to stop working. I have a crash report here from windows; which I've uploaded for anyone to look over. As it is seems there is something to do with another file in windows it is not working well with for some reason.

This just started happening here it would seem for the last week or so. I'm also filing a support case for this and will report back the results.

Seems as though they are aware of the problems... support said that anyway. But no fix as of yet. I've uninstalled for now and await a proper fix. Soon I hope for my system was giving all different kinds of errors and even lockups with crashes of MSC. Whats next?

Thanks for reminding me about this issue I was about to install again on one of my xp pro machines and see.

Kaspersky has done better and for sure stops more virus's than Mcafee ever could.

                  Thanks ChuckW

                    System log: Event 514

A nagging error ('warning'), but not enough subscribers complaining?

The obvious incurability of this phenomenon has made me decide also to find a different AV when the period ends.

I posted this in other threads also but just wanted to ensure visibility... I appear to have found a fix for this issue on my Windows 7 X64 Ultimate install with the 2010 BT Netprotect verion of Mcafee Antivirus.  I found a reference to a McAfee utility in the Knowledge base for an issue with PCPeople. I figured the issue must be caused by an install issue so I looked for a way to install the driver again.   The solution was to run mfehidin.exe to install MFEHIDK.sys from the command line with the command "mfehidin.exe -i mfehidk.sys".  mfehidin.exe resides in my c:\program files\common files\mcafee\vscore directory along with the MFEHIDK. inf, cat and sys files so you have to change directory on the command line to "cd c:\program files\common files\mcafee\vscore and then run the mfehidin.exe -i mfehidk.sys command.  For other operating systems it may be in another place so you will have to search your McAfee program file directories to be sure.  Then type "mfehidin.exe -i mfehidk.sys" (no quotes) into the command line and press enter.  An alternative method that might work would be to right click on mfehidk.inf and select install from the popup window. This should install the driver again using the security catalog information contained in mfehidk.cat which is where I think McAfee got the install process wrong as it does not appear to register the security catalog details when installing the driver.  After I did this I got a windows automatic certificate update for a Digicert SSL Certificate but I do not know if this was related.  I have not got this error since doing this.  Of course you mileage may vary!  Good luck and let me know if it works for you.  Daz.

Hi, I tried what you suggested, but with little regard it didn't work.  Darn, wish it did I'm getting tired of these errors.

hey guys, sorry I'm a little late to the game here. Can I find out what build numbers you guys are running? Double-click the M icon in your taskbar. click Navigation, then about. Let me know for SecurityCenter (and the AffID), VirusScan, and Firewall please.

                          Thanks!
