    Is there a VSE Lite version

    TCash

      We are deploying VSE 8.7i with patch 3 to workstations in our Sheriff patrol cars.  These systems have limited resources and use a cellular connection for updating.  These systems are already taxed without McAfee assimilating most of the remaining system resources.

      My questions to the knowledgeable folks in this community is, does a “Lite” version of VSE exists or is there is a way to strip down the existing VSE 8.7 version to be Lite version? I've seen home versions of McAfee for Netbooks which might be relevant, but nothing for the enterprise.

      Thoughts, Suggestions..

      Thanks in Advance,

      Tim

          Not really. There used to be a product called VSE TC (Thin Client), but that was EOL about 5 years ago.

          I'm sure in the environment where you're using the product you can choose not to install some of the McAfee features, which will help reduce it's footprint.

          Eg:

          - Script scanner.

          - Email scanners.

            Hello,

            we have the same Problem with old Systems with single Core CPU and less than 1 GB RAM.
            During OnDemandScan and more open Tasks the System is not good to handle anymore :-(

            We also asked for a Lite Version ;-)

            Also Productions Systems do have older PC's included which runs since years.

            The new Virusscan 8.7 has since the 5400 Scan Engine a greater Usage of Resources.

            Here we have only the following possibilities:

            1) to reduce the Installation to the minimum with the McAfee Installation Designer like Mal09

            - disable the Buffer Overflow and remove in Installation

            - disable the Access protection and remove in Installation

            - disable Talkback and remove in Installation

            - disable E-mail Scan and remove in Installation

            - disable Script Scan

            2) exclude the affected Prcesses from OnAccessScan - to improve the performance

            - example - AutoCAD.exe - to speed up AutoCAD

            3) reduce the Framework CPU Usage :

            "LowerWorkingThreadPriority"=dword:00000001 - reduce the CPU Load during Update

            "NoUpdaterUI"=dword:00000001 - save recources from ePO Icon

            use a regscript to set the Reg-Keys

            ******************************************************************************** **********************************

            REGEDIT4

            [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Network Associates\ePolicy Orchestrator]
            "NoUpdaterUI"=dword:00000001

            [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Network Associates\TVD\Shared Components\Framework]
            "LowerWorkingThreadPriority"=dword:00000001

            [HKLM\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\run]
            "Network Associates Error Reporting Service"=-

            [HKLM\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\run]
            "McAfeeTalkBackMonitor"=-

            ******************************************************************************** ***********************************

            4) reduce all possible McAfee Icons - to save more RAM Usage

            example:
            reg delete HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run /v ShStat.exe /f
            reg delete HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run /v McAfeeUpdaterUI

            best Regards

              Thank you, most excellent suggestions.  As all installations must be managed via the ePO, only those items can be modified.  However, I understand that a patch will be forthcoming to address the CPU usage

              Thanks!
