May I know since when this problem started ?
Please click start – run – type msconfig , In the new window that pop up click on the start up tab and uncheck any Mcafee services and restart the computer .
Kindly update me with the status .
If you are ussing McAfee 2009 (Security Center 9.XX) The McAfee Backup and Restore uninstalled because dont exist more. Now the Internet Security and Total Protection have Online Backup. (I think)
This behavior began within the last week.
I did as you requested - found one startup item, mcagent, which I disabled.
The msg still occurred on restart.
I'll turn mcagent back on ...
Security Center module is version 10 - dated last week. I suspect this version is the culprit as that is about the time the msgs began.
This issue isn't whether Backup and Restore is available; it's that the msg continues to appear each time I logon since the Dismiss button doesn't cause it to go away, permanently.
What is your product?
Virus Scan, Internet Security or Total Protection?
Total Protection, latest version & update.
HI Dave, did you ever get any solution to this problem? Same thing has been happening to me since the software 'upgrade' (which in practice has meant the loss of a bunch of functionality I had with the previous version including this backup and restore function). I'm running 'McAfee Internet Security'.
The msg continues to appear.
As you can see from the thread there hasn't been much traffic. Although not good for you, I was glad to see your msg as I was concerned that this was something special just for me... I think it is likely that a lot of XP users (are you using XP?) are seeing this and doing what I did for the first week, clicking "Dismiss" and continuing on.
I think that most of the functionality is still there (excepting Backup & Restore) but the new interface is terrible, I guess the product designers and human interface engineers were on vacation that week. It certainly isn't intuitive - who would expect the "Navigate" menu to lead to "About"?
Yes, XP. Agree about the interface, I thought the old one was bad til this new version came along. Incidentally I've had so much problems with trojans and viruses getting through these past few months that I was wondering if I should dump McAfee and find something else - it just seems so ineffective. Now I think the prospect of being hassled by this pop up every time I log on for the rest of my life might just tip me over the edge! Do post something up if you find a solution..
