It tends to be a few weeks. However, this one might be delayed due to the "Prevent Spoofing" issue identified.
Why don't you use Installation Designer, and integrate Patch 3 into the package? That's pretty simple and should give you the desired results.
"A few weeks" is longer than I'd like to wait. I'm not familiar with Installation Designer, but I'll read up on it. Thanks.
The installation designer worked well enough for what I needed. Thanks again.
Pretty cool isnt it I remember doing it when P2 came out... need to do again now with P3!
One benefit is that you can roll the latest DAT file in for good measure
It is usually a 4 week delay between patch posting and full repost to include the patch.
It's a goal to release them at the same time, but circumstances don't always allow it.
Our next posting, for example, to include patch 3... this package is having to undergo some significant changes. Not code changes as far as the product goes or the patch it includes, it will be the first package to be posted with no DAT files. That's right, NO DAT FILES! . This means a very small (comparitively speaking) install package.
For those upgrading from VSE 8.5i, it will preserve the DATs that are on the system.
Others will use MID to incorporate a set of DATs and create a new install package akin to what we used to post. The DATs will expectedly be the latest.
For everyone else, the package will run an update immediately after install which will retrieve the full DAT package.
If you get into a situation where there are no DATs and updates are failing, VSE will not be able to detect malware. However, the Access Protection and Buffer Overflow features will still work (normally they don't work if OAS fails to initialize). The On-Access Scanner will work again just as soon as you can get DATs on the system.
We've been saying mid-April for this package but have been trying to get it done earlier. The recent vscan.bof issues have taken away our cushioning of time.
Is VirusScan Enterprise 8.7i with Patch 3 (DAT-less package) https://kc.mcafee.com/corporate/index?page=content&id=KB68449 now available to download? I was wondering if this could be deployed via Windows Group Policy, along side the current DAT files repackaged from .exe to .MSI to ensure a instant update?
It's not out yet, but must be pretty close...
The VSE 8.7i repost with Patch 3 has been released. It was under our grant number today.
Noticed the readme in the Knowledgebase this morning (London time), but didn't get around to checking if it had been released.
Nice to know it's out!
